Beth Yaakov Synagogue

Heybeliada Sinagogu
In 1940s when the number of Jewish families spending their summer vacations in Heybeliada outreached 250, there was a need to build a synagogue on the island. Thereupon, the 698-square-meter land located in Kuyu Neighbourhood, Orhan Street was purchased in 1947. Bet Yaakov Synagogue was registered under the Galata-Beyoğlu-Kasımpaşa-Şişli Community (Neve Şalom Foundation) in 1953, the necessary permissions were obtained and the construction began with the support of Salamon Adato, a member of the Turkish Parliament of that time.
The Synagogue was opened to service on Sunday, June 10, 1956 with a grand ceremony.
